BUSHFIRE RAVAGED TOWNS FOR YOU TO VISIT

BUSHFIRE RAVAGED TOWNS FOR YOU TO VISIT

We list several bushfire ravaged towns that you can visit and support now that travel restrictions have eased.  Many of these small towns are reliant on tourism so adding to your 2020 travel list can help these communities rebuild and prop up the local economy.

Tenterfield & Stanthorpe

Visit the historic towns of Tenterfield and Stanthorpe, located on the QLD/NSW border and surrounded by national park.  Both towns are located within the emerging wine region of the Northern Rivers, an 8 hour drive from Sydney or 3 hour trip from either Byron Bay or the Gold Coast.  Enjoy local wine and produce, walk amongst the many historic buildings and arrange a day trip into the Giraween National Park, known for its spectacular boulders and dramatic landscape.

Mallacoota

A small town in Gippsland, Victoria that was severely impacted by the bushfires.  You can enjoy the breathtaking views across Mallacoota inlet and enjoy the magnificent wilderness of the Croajingolong National Park - 100km of coastline boasting white sandy beaches, granite peaks and heathland.

Leura

Leura is a picturesque town situated in the Blue Mountains - only 2 hours west of Sydney.  You can enjoy a long lunch, amble through local boutiques and antique shops and during Autumn and early Winter you can walk amongst the colourful deciduous trees.

Batemans Bay

Batemans Bay is about 4 hours south of Sydney and home to a number of breathtaking beaches for fishing, swimming and surfing.  There are a lot of kid-friendly activities including a visit to birdland, the marine park or the heritage museum.

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is a protected island reserve situated off the coast of South Australia.  The island relies heavily on tourism so it's worth a visit to boost the local community.  The Flinders Chase National Park is a major highlight with striking coastal rock formations - it's also great for animal lovers as you can view penguin colonies and pods of seals within their natural habitat.

Cooma

Located in the Snowy Mountains, Cooma is a welcoming ski town - perfect to visit during the cooler months.  The adventurous among us can enjoy fly fishing, alpine hiking or perhaps white water rafting or horse riding along the Snowy River.

The Grampians

The Grampians makes for the perfect outdoor holiday.  The national park offers various hiking trails where you can view the diverse landscape including the rugged mountain range, dramatic waterfalls and open plains blooming with wildflowers.

South Coast

A trip to the south coast includes travelling through towns of Milton, Lake Conjola, Mollymook and Ulladulla - all seaside towns with plenty of charm.  The region has a number of national parks which makes for great camping and daily boat trips are available to Eden and Jervis Bay.

Shoalhaven Heads

A beautiful town just south of Sydney - perfect for a weekend trip as the drive from Sydney is only 2 hours.  Relax via the Shoalhaven River or among the white sandy beaches within the region.  There are also plenty of wineries stretching between Kiama and Kangaroo Valley that you can explore.

Kangaroo Valley

Kangaroo Valley is a beautiful region with rich green pastures, lush rainforest and a friendly community.  Immerse yourself in nature, taste local wine and produce and be entertained by the abundant local fauna.
